Lead Artist (d/w/m) - 80-100%

Gentle Troll is looking for a Lead Artist for our team in Würzburg!
Preferably with a background as a general game artist, you will be responsible for developing the look and feel of new titles and ensure the artistic quality is maintained during production. You will also help to plan the production schedule for your department and mentor and support art interns.

Your tasks:

  • Art Direction - Help us develop and streamline the visual style to fit the project-specific needs.
  • Concept Art - You create different styles to pitch new projects.
  • Asset Creation - You create the required assets from sketch to implementation in the engine (mainly Unity), receive and convert feedback from your team and the client.
  • 2D & 3D Workflows - creat worksflows (e.g. Blender-Unity3D) with the team.
  • Management - Help the art team to stay on track by writing task descriptions, evaluate their duration and prioritize the tasks

What you bring:

  • Strong understanding of visual design - you know how to use lighting, colors, and composition to convey a specific mood.
  • Game development experience - you have developed and finished games before and you are aware of the different roles and stages of production.
  • 2D Art - Create characters, sketch layouts, and even concepts: You are comfortable visualizing your ideas with a variety of tools and can evaluate if an idea is viable. You are familiar with Photoshop and maybe, you have already animated with Spine Animation before.
  • 3D Art - You are familiar with the basics of 3D, and are comfortable with a low-poly workflow, from modeling to unwrapping and animating - ideally in Blender.
  • UI - You have created User Interfaces for games before, maybe even for different platforms, and are aware of the requirements of graphics used for implementation.
  • Team player - You work closely with your team members and other teams and are always looking for ways to improve your own work.
  • You are fluent in German and have a good understanding of English.

That's a long list and maybe not all points apply to you? But the position matches your interests and skills? Apply anyway and grow with the team!

What we offer:

  • Flexible working hours, industry-standard compensation, overtime regulations.
  • Active avoidance of crunch time!
  • Work in a young, motivated, creative team.
  • Varied work: you get to co-create games according to your ideas and dive into many different artistic disciplines!
  • Start the venture into the entertainment sector with an indie team.
  • Stability through our established Serious Games division with a focus on socially relevant games (e.g. on climate change).
  • Remote work - during the getting-to-know-you phase and until everyone can safely and comfortably return to the office.
  • Nice office with free coffee and snacks in Downtown Würzburg (young university town with many cultural offers) directly at the river Main
